maybe trip was not meant to be. Death of family friend hours after leaving Sacramento around 6 am on Saturday, February 28th. In an 8 car pile up in Pasadena a few hours after that. Hit Nogales around 2 am on March 1st and spent an hour getting auto and tourist permits. Glad we did, got pulled over around 2 am the next night in Guadalajara and all they wanted was to see permits. Mazatlan around 5 pm local, Mexicao city around 9 am on 2nd. Hit Tapachula on Tuesday around 3 am. Stink like hell and have spent over 140 dollars on tolls. But now the fun and spear fishing have begun. The persistent little shits at the Guat border are everything everyone had described. Do your best to ignore them. I gave two of them 5 bucks just for enduring my insults and callousness. Best thing you can do is to already have some Quetzels. About 4 dollars worth for fumigating and you DO NOT NEED YOUR PASSPORT STAMPÈD TO LEAVE MEXICO. Have you ever been checked by the Mexicans when going back into the Sates? Get the auto permit and you have to pay at the banco. You can use a debit card at the bank. It doesn´t open until 9 am though, so the earlier you get there, the more time you get to spend with those pesky little bastards. The money chgangers are not really making that much off of you in reality. The bank is about 7.8 Quetzels for a dollar and the guys on the street will give 6 or 7. Considering how poor these people are, it isn´t that bad I suppos. We are in Iztapa Guatemala tonight and spearfishing tomorrow. Will try to give some more updates as we go.

I'd love to hear more updates

I'd love to hear more updates on your spearfishing experiences. I'm just heading across the US to start a Mex-->Central American spearfishing trip. Any advice would be great.

spearfishing

Spearfishing has been absolute disaster. Visibility is pure crap with all of the wind. Seems like it hasn´t stopped for a second. Tried Iztapa in Guat, the area north of El Tunco in El Salvador and the los Cucos are in El Sal as well. Beautiful boat rides and scenery but the water is mud. Was going to San Juan del Sur in Nicaragua but when we called from Managua, they told us to not even bother driving over due to the high winds. We were burnt out with dealing with all of the BS at the borders and police stops every ten minutes that we just hauled ass for Costa Rica. Felt guilty sitting around in the Tamarindo area, felt like we should have had our families with us so we took off for Panama. Got here yesterday and trying to get the pickup off of our passport so we can fly out of here as soon as possible.

I was in santa catalina

I was in santa catalina panama, ask around, some of the locals might be able to get you outside the national park where coiba is located.120lbs tuna with a spear gun is not uncommen.Alot of other fish too.You need to get to the ranger station near coiba island, they will take you to the sweet spot for a price.I was just there!
