We are soon leaving Hood River, Oregon on trip driving into Mexico, and most of Central America and back. We will be spending about 4.5 months on the road.

I will be taking my 5 year old son Levi, who is high functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder, and my 20 year old brother, Donald. We will meet up with a friend, Greg "Burlynomad" and caravan. Lots of jungles, Mayan ruins, and beaches in our future. Greg is a master diver, kayaker, and a surfer.

Believe it or not, we managed to pack; 2 twin-tips, a 6'2" squash, 8'3" longboard, 2 foils, and 9 inflatables. Oh, and our camping gear. we have a spear gun, and fishing gear as well.

This last year Levi learned to ride on a skim board while being pushed around, and loves to ride on my back while kiting. he loves water, and hiking. I hope to teach him to surf while abroad. we are currently swimming 6 days a week at the local pool in preparation for the adventure. he has recently learned to swim a bit on his own, and am now working on getting him in a mask and fins. His school has been very supportive in making sure that I can provide all the services he needs for his development while on the road.

I want to thank all my friends and family for the support needed to make this happen. A big thanks to Windwing, Drops kiteboards, OpenOcean custom boards, and Promotion wetsuits (for Levi's suit), Stewert for the longboard, and to Swell City Carpet. Thank you so much.

Any info, or must see spots any of you know of, would be appreciated.

Hey man,
The truck looks great. I'm pretty excited about leaving. I'm hoping to hit the road this Monday. I've got a few things left to take care of and I'm still waiting on my w-2's to come in the mail. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. If everything works out I should be in Nogales by next Friday. How's your departure time looking?

I somehow lost the title to my truck, so have to wait for it to get here. The DMV says it will take until around the first of March. 4-6 weeks from 1.5 weeks ago. friggn' sucks. I was going to leave this coming weekend.

FYI:
We had the same thing happen and went down to the head office (not a satellite dmv) and told them we needed a title printed immediately, explained we were heading to C.A. and couldn't go without, blah, blah, blah. Signed some papers, paid $20 or some ridiculously low price for lost title, and they gave it to us right there.
Totally do-able.

Thanks for the tip.
The local Oregon DMV says they (Oregon) quit doing that a couple years back. I told them it would delay my trip. It cost me $55 and a long wait. I don't like that you have to carry your title anyway. That seems like it would make make it easy for some hoodlum to dispose of you, forge your signature... I guess in their home country, they could just take the rig, and not worry about legalities.

I will call Salem on Monday. I would guess it is to late, as I already ordered it, but I guess I'll find out.

Finally, we are off. The

Finally, we are off. The truck is loaded, and we are leaving in a few hours. I sent the last 11 days in Costa Rica, Bahia Salinas, and it was awesome. I made some connections throughout Nicaragua while there. The flight home was long as I am pretty sore from the stingray I was lucky enough to meet, aswell as kite boarding in 35+ mph winds every day. Recreo was great. My students were all awesome. This was a trip I'll remember forever. I will load some pics of my trip later, but you can visit http://www.recreocostarica.com to see the ones they put up. there is also a 3 part movie on youtube at: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mo...

I am the guy with the beard. shaved it off now though.

Well we made it to San Carlos

Well we made it to San Carlos on Monday night. We were greeted with a 7m kitesurf session on Tuesday. It has been nice and warm. I posted a few pics and a video on: http://www.nwkite.com/forums/t-12019-0-asc-17.html

Burlynomad has been working hard supplying the daily fish. I will start my fishing tomorrow. visibility is low, and fish are skidish.
