Hey,

Cool forum and website - it was a big help in planning my trip.

I have a blog of my trip at www.laakso.us I'm in Panama right now and getting ready to drive back. Wish I had a year to do it justice.

Hey, thanks for the link. I am going to check it out. That's cool that you live in panama right now. I used to live there for a couple of years.

I don't live in Panama, I was just posting from there. I'm in Costa Rica now on my way back to the states.

Glad you liked it! I've been lazy since I got back, but one of these days I will get around to writing up the logistics information I would have found useful.

My question on the Latin America Travel forum

Hi, I just read where you are driving north from Panama. Do you recall the car permits you received in each country and how long you were given in each country? I have received 180 days Mexico, 45 days Guatemala, 90 days Honduras and I would like to know in advance as I head south for the other countries so that I might plan my time better. I have found that the consulates and government agencies in the capitals can often not answer these questions and the only way to really find out is when you pay the car permit fee at the border and ask for maximum time. (Who knows, even that may be different according to who is working that day.)

I am also considering parking my car, flying to the US and returning to the country issuing the permit before the permit expires. I don't know how else I might accomplish leaving a car here while I travel from country to country and then flying back to the US periodically for a few months to conduct business and then returning to re-establish my Central American journey.

i don't remember how long i was given for each country - sorry. i was never staying longer than a few weeks so it wasn't an issue for me.
